Business Management With Foundation BA Honours in The University of Sydney

Our degree courses with Foundation year offer the opportunity to prepare you for advanced study before you progress onto a full honours degree at the University of Westminster. Whether you do not feel ready for degree-level study, don’t have the right qualifications, want to change your subject specialism or return to study after an absence from education, we aim to encourage a broad range of students to undertake our Foundation year in order to progress onto their full honours degree with us.

The Foundation year is designed to give you the opportunity to explore new ideas, opening up new perspectives on the key debates within your chosen field. Core modules accelerate your academic and professional development and you will also take modules from areas closely related to your chosen field, giving you the chance to develop a cross-disciplinary perspective on your course.

On successful completion of the Foundation year (Year 0), you will be able to move on to study for the Business Management BA Honours degree.

Business success requires a breadth of knowledge and abilities and, in bringing together theory and practice, over a further three years study, this course will enable you to develop the vision, innovation and dynamism required in the contemporary business world.

The Business Management degree allows you to build the degree of your choice, by studying for a general business award or specialising in one of seven business areas: Accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, legal regulation or marketing.

The course also gives you the opportunity to change pathway at the end of the first year, allowing you to specialise if you wish at that point. You may also change to the general pathway at the end of the second year.

During the course, you will gain a broad range of business knowledge and skills which will enable you to pursue a career in the private or public sectors. You will also have the appropriate skills and the confidence to develop your own business.

In Year 1 you are introduced to the functions of business organisations, the broader business environment, and key management skills and competence including information gathering and analysis, accounting, economics, marketing and organisational behaviour.

In Year 2 you will be investigating and learning how businesses operate, looking at how people are managed, how you manage business operations and how managers make key decisions.

Year 2 is the year where you will start to specialise in the pathway of your choice, where you also have the ability to select modules to develop your knowledge in a certain direction within your pathway. You may also select a module in a foreign language. Your personal tutor will help you to decide on a programme of study best suited to your abilities and personal career interests. There is also an opportunity to study abroad for a single semester.

Year 3 will enable you to apply critical and reflective approaches to exploring the challenges facing organisations at a strategic level. You will also develop your specialist area further. During the year you will complete a piece of independent research within your specialist subject area.

In each year of study, you will take a combination of core and option modules, with increased flexibility as you move through your degree. Each year, you will also have the opportunity to study a foreign language as part of your course.
