Business Economics Bsc Honours in University of Westminster, London
In an uncertain and rapidly changing world, a knowledge of economics and the unique insights it offers into how individuals, firms and organisations operate and interact is invaluable. So is the ability to communicate this understanding to specialists and non-specialists. This course combines a thorough grounding in the discipline of economics, with a range of practical skills required in professional life and for postgraduate studies.
You will develop your ability to apply economic reasoning to real-world issues. You will become confident in economic and business analysis and in applying these analytical skills to business and organisational decisions, to solving business and economic problems, undertaking research and consultancy, and contributing to the design and implementation of economic policy by government agencies. You will also extend your skills in data gathering and interpretation, quantitative analysis and forecasting, become global in outlook and socially, environmentally and ethically aware.
The course will enhance your employability as business analysts or specialist economists, as well as equipping you for careers in management, in an international organisation, in banking, the financial sector more broadly, or the voluntary or public sector.
In each year of study you will take a combination of core and option modules.
The course begins with a thorough grounding in economics and an appreciation of the part economic history has played in shaping the evolution of economic thought. At Level 5 the course involves more advanced study of macroeconomics and microeconomics, and the application of economic theory in research and appraisal. At Level 6 you will explore contemporary economic policy debates and develop your econometric analysis and forecasting skills.
At each level you will be offered a choice of applied economic option modules as well as more general business modules and the opportunity to study a language.
Teaching methods focus on active student learning through seminars, workshops, problem-based and blended learning (including group work) designed to engage your interest. Assessment methods may include essays, reports, case studies, and in-class tests as well as time-constrained exams.
