About Environmental Health in University of West of Scotland
OVERVIEW
The UWS BSc Environmental Health is the only undergraduate degree course in Scotland to be accredited by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland.
It provides a direct pathway to become a professional environmental health officer (EHO), allowing you to apply your knowledge of science, technology, law and professional practice to keep people safe and healthy.
Environmental health examines how the natural and built environment impacts upon human health. Professionals are responsible for ensuring that people’s living and working surroundings are safe and healthy.
Environmental health is made up of the following specialisms:
- food safety
- food standards
- occupational health & safety
- public health
- waste management
- built environment
- pollution control
After Year 1 you have the option to progress to degrees in applied bioscience, chemistry, and occupational safety and health as well as environmental health.
COURSE DETAILS
The BSc (Hons) Environmental Health will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage the health and safety of your organisation. If you are not yet employed, this degree will enable you to become a professional environmental health officer (EHO) or move into broader environmental health role in a range of industry sectors.
This course was developed with input from industry experts, local authorities and the Association of Chief Environmental Health Officers in Scotland. It is the only one of its kind on offer in Scotland that is accredited by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) and the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH).

Further Study
