About Ecology And Conservation Biology With Placement Year Bsc in University of Sheffield
Our four-year BSc with Placement Year gives you a conceptual and practical understanding of communities and ecosystems and the threats they face. This degree allows you to do a year-long, paid work placement between your second and third year.
You'll pay reduced fees for the year you're on placement. You'll also have regular contact with your tutor and all the support you need from the University. We have a dedicated tutor to help you find a placement, and our Careers Service is on hand to offer support and advice.
Our degrees all start with core subject and skills modules that provide the foundation for your studies. As you progress through your degree, you'll have a chance to explore your core subjects in greater depth, choose optional modules across the biosciences to help broaden your knowledge and skills and participate in a research activity. Moving to a different degree course is possible, especially in the first year, and depending on your qualifications.
Optional modules include molecular and evolutionary ecology, population biology and conservation principles.
We have excellent facilities for ecology teaching and research, including controlled environment chambers that simulate conditions ranging from the Tropics to the Arctic, experimental gardens and glasshouses, artificial stream systems, state-of-the-art equipment for DNA, bio-molecular and elemental analyses. The Peak District National Park and other habitats are within easy reach.
There are optional field courses in the Peak District National Park (UK), Anglesey (UK), Ireland, Arctic Sweden, the Mediterranean and the tropical rainforest in Borneo.
If you want to study ecology and conservation biology but don't meet the entry requirements to go straight into the first year, our Biosciences with a Foundation Year could be for you. After successfully completing the one-year programme, you'll progress onto the first year of your chosen degree.
