Education is something that happens at all stages of our lives, not just in childhood. It allows us to develop our thoughts and ideas, progress in our careers and learn more about the world in which we live.
Whether your interest lies in working with children with special educational needs, working in a museum as an educator, youth work, professional development in a private organisation, or making a contribution to the wider field of education, an BA Education Studies will give you a strong grounding for your career.
The degree is also excellent preparation for postgraduate teacher education and further study at master’s level.
An education studies degree at Roehampton offers you breadth of study, but also provides direction, by giving you three possible pathways to pursue:
In year one, you will gain a broad and balanced knowledge of the principal features of education and the debates within educational theory, policy and practice. In years two and three, you will then choose optional modules within one of the three pathways, or choose a combination from all three, giving you a diverse knowledge of education.
You will undertake a professional work placement, to gain valuable experience in the workplace, and put the theory you have learnt at Roehampton into practice. You can also choose to study abroad for a semester at one of our partner universities, to develop your cross-cultural skills and confidence, and learn about education in another culture.
Higher Secondary academic qualifications (certificate and transcript), and a valid English language qualification, a personal statement and two references. Please note that English Language tests results are usually only accepted if they have been achieved in the last two years.
