Sports Studies And Business (joint Honours) BA (hons) in University of Northampton
This Joint Honours course provides you with a integrated way of studying across two departments in a comprehensive and interesting manner. The core subjects provide a well rounded knowledge in both Business and Sports Studies, there is a strong emphasis on the application of theories and concepts to practical issues such as increasing sport participation, managing facilities generating income and marketing.
We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.
Course Details
The Joint Honours are flexible and can be easily, after first year, tailored to your interests. This means you can study a personalised degree tailored to you. There is a optional placement year.
You will be introduced to the core disciplines that underpin the academic analysis of both Sport and Business and are encouraged to consider how generic business principles, theories and concepts can be applied to sport organisations, particularly at the grassroots level of sport.
The structure of the course means that you can develop your areas of interest by appropriate selection of modules. You can start the first year with an even split of modules between the two subjects and you can specialise in either subject as your own knowledge and interests develop in years two and three.
You are encouraged to gain voluntary work experience alongside your studies to develop your own skills and improve your chances of employment on graduation. The optional placement year is available for those who are keen to pursue a full time internship during their studies. Many students have obtained permanent work at the organisations they have worked for. Help and advice is provided from our dedicated Centre for Enterprise and Employability.
