Our Multimedia Sports Journalism course is an excellent foundation for a career in sports journalism. You will be taught the practical skills needed to record, film or edit for TV or radio and learn how to be truly multimedia literate, making the most of social media and designing your own website as well as how to write for sports magazines or newspapers.
The legal and regulatory side of the industry will be examined and you will reflect on the ethical considerations of sports coverage. News days form a central part of the course where you work to deadlines, preparing sports content for broadcast using industry standard equipment. You will also undertake work placements within the sporting industry.
We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.
Course Details
An average week is a combination of lectures, seminars and a practical newsday which usually totals 16 hours of contact time per week. A news day lasts from 9am-5pm once a week. Practical work is project-based and you will be writing and sub-editing newspaper and magazine sports copy, producing radio and television sports bulletins with reports and packages to industry standards and deadlines.
This programme is taught using a variety of methods including news days, lectures, seminars, personal tutorials and through masterclasses led by professional practitioners in journalism.
Assessments
You will be assess through a variety of methods including practical portfolios, essays, reports, presentations, practical projects and written examinations and timed tests.
