About Film Studies With Music BA (hons) in University of Liverpool

Films have been vital cultural outputs for over one hundred years. The context in which they are produced and distributed is constantly changing but their importance as documents of our times remains, as does the pleasure they give to audiences across the world and their potential influence on the way those audiences may see the world. Combining Film Studies with a minor in Music gives you the opportunity to complement your Film Studies major with a programme focusing on developing an in-depth and critical historical understanding of music repertoires, cultures and practices.

Programme in detail

Film Studies with Music at Liverpool offers you the chance to study with recognised scholars of film cultures and industries around the world, offering a wide-ranging and sophisticated academic programme in this critical field. Our students have an interest in world cultures and a desire to fully appreciate the ways in which these cultures have expressed themselves through film. We encourage you to become an independent learner, and support you through our dedicated library resources, including a wide variety of films from all periods and sources available for private study, e-learning initiatives and structured tasks outside the classroom. Your minor in Music requires you to take a core module in classical music repertoire and then select an option such as performance, composition, world music or technology.

In Years Two and Three you focus in more detail on the area that interests you most (such as history, analysis, psychology, audio-visual, performance or composition).

Academic qualification equivalents

• Successful completion of examinations at standard X and XII (Higher Secondary School Certificate) with minimum marks of approximately 70 to 85%, according to the course and exam board.

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS: A  minimum of IELTS band 6.0–7.0, with no component below 5.5.
• TOEFL iBT: 78-88 overall with 19-Listening, Writing, Reading, 21-Speaking.
• PTE:  55-62 with minimum score of 51 in any component
