We offer advanced research training opportunities across a broad range of areas, including chemistry, pharmacy, biomedical science, environmental science and sports science. Our research degree is designed by four departments: Medway School of Pharmacy, the Natural Resources Institute, Life and Sports Science, and Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Environmental Science. Research activities are supported by state-of-the-art laboratories and computer facilities.
You will initiate and interpret new knowledge, led by your understanding of a substantial body of knowledge in your academic discipline. Recent projects by our research students include solar energy conversion, fragment-based drug discovery, the treatment of contaminated soils by accelerated carbonation, and the integrated production of bio-diesel from rapeseed oil. Once you complete your training, you'll be ideally suited to work in academic or industrial research environments.
What you should know about this course
- Normally, you register for the MPhil and transfer to the PhD at the end of the first year, subject to satisfactory progress.
- You’ll benefit from dedicated research lab space and state-of-the-art facilities at our Medway Campus in Kent. There are several local hospitals for NHS-based placements and a wide range of private and research laboratories, including Kent Science Park.
- The Medway School of Pharmacy is a unique collaboration between the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent. It specialises in pharmacy, pharmacology, physiology and chemistry.
- The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) is a unique multidisciplinary academic centre with an established reputation for high quality research and training in global food security, sustainable development and poverty reduction.
- The MPhil is 18-36 months full-time and 30-48 months part-time. The MPhil/PhD is 36-48 months full-time and 48-84 months part-time.

Academic Entry Requirements
Postgraduate Degrees (Master's)
For entry to our Master's programmes, you will need to have met the following:
- Four year bachelor degree with a minimum of 55% in Final Year for UK 2:2 OR 65% for UK 2:1(50% for UK 2:2 OR 60% for UK 2.1 from top University:Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Osmania, JNTU)
- 70% in English in Standard XII or English language requirements
