Our extended degree in business economics includes a foundation year to prepare you for degree-level study. You’ll be able to tailor the course to meet your own interests or career aspirations.
This extended degree will provide you with a solid grounding in business economics. You'll apply economic theory and data handling skills to analyse data and use industry-standard statistical software and databases, giving you vital experience for employment and postgraduate study.
By choosing option modules, you'll be able to shape your degree to your own areas of interest or to the needs of your future career. A foundation year at the start of your studies will give you the skills required to flourish at degree level.

What you should know about this course
Careers and placements
Will I have a work placement?
Work placements are optional, and you are responsible for arranging your placement with support from the university.
Previous students on the three-year course have secured placement year at Microsoft, FTI Consulting, Sandals Resort International, IBM and Northern Trust.
How long is my placement?
Work placements are 9-12 months of full-time paid work. You take this between the second and third years of study.
What are the financial arrangements?
UK placement annual salaries range between £13,000-£18,000 pro rata. Some charity/voluntary work organisations offer travel costs and lunch expenses in lieu of a full salary.
What sort of careers do graduates pursue?
Graduates of this course have the same career opportunities as those graduating from our three-year course. They may go on to become economists or financial analysts, take up posts in business services or business analysis units, or pursue management careers in international business.
Are internships available?
Internships are optional, and last for a minimum of six weeks. Gain a Certificate in Professional Practice and valuable employment experience before graduating.
