About BA (hons) Fashion Design in University of East London (UEL)
Our popular and well-regarded course, taught by industry professionals, is having an increasingly big impact on the exhilarating and competitive world of fashion.
Our Fashion and textiles courses are ranked 4th in London in the Guardian University Guide 2018.
Do you want to see your own creations taken on by major fashion labels? Or to be in demand as a creative machinist or garment operator? Would you like to become an entrepreneur and set up your own clothing business? Graduates from our course have done all these things and more.
This is a fast-paced, hands-on course amid the creative hub of east London, preparing you to take your place in the world of commercial fashion.
You’ll learn as your prototype progresses from concept through to construction and product development. We’ll build your confidence as you develop your handcraft and design skills, fashioning pieces that you’ll have the chance to showcase at Graduate Fashion Week the world's largest platform for the designers of tomorrow.
And if you choose to undertake an optional placement year, you’ll have a wonderful opportunity to earn as you learn for a year at top fashion companies such as Diesel and Urban Outfitters.
At the University of East London, we’ll give you a thorough grounding in the old and the new. We value traditional handcrafts as highly as today’s computer-aided design tools. Our students become experts in both.
We’ve spent a lot of time safeguarding traditional handcraft skills, with our textile and print workshops and sewing workrooms. We also know that in a digital age, you need the best tuition in areas such as computer technology, laser cutting, and 3D printing. We pride ourselves on our creative 3D design teaching.
Over your three years – or four if you go on a year-long placement – you’ll explore new approaches in different areas, with workshops on technical skills such as pattern cutting to business-geared skills like fashion branding.
The modules you take will give you expert insight and advanced knowledge of working practice. By your last year, you'll be perfectly equipped to follow your own path as you design your final, major project.
