About Msc Marine Hydrodynamics And Ocean Engineering in University of Dundee
Engineer the oceans and their resources sustainably
Oceans cover over 70% of the Earth's surface area. It is a diverse environment with vast engineering problems requiring solutions. Engineers who can find innovative and sustainable ways to solve these issues are in high demand.
On this course, you will gain expertise in the fundamental research methods of marine hydrodynamics and ocean engineering. You also learn about its practical application, analysis and design.
You will apply theoretical, computational and experimental principles of hydrodynamics to traditional and contemporary problems of ocean engineering. This includes applications to coastal; offshore and subsea engineering; naval architecture and other related disciplines.
Our academic staff will support you through your studies. They are renowned internationally for their impact, contribution and extensive experience.
We work closely with experts to produce graduates with the skills to meet industry standards and requirements. We also comply with other stakeholder rules and regulations.
Field trips are an essential aspect of this course.
You will also have an opportunity to work in a team on a major marine renewable energy systems design project. This will incorporate the technical, economic, environmental, ethical, social, and liability considerations and constraints faced in industry. The Design module will be delivered in a close collaboration with the industry.
This course is designed both for those pursuing a higher degree who wish to become specialists in ocean engineering and related disciplines, soon or immediately after obtaining their first degree, and for those with considerable work experience.
Accreditation
The University will be seeking accreditation from the Joint Board of Moderators, which comprises the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Institute of Highway Engineers in 2019.
Careers
We are globally renowned for research and teaching in Environmental Fluid Mechanics, Offshore Geotechnics, and Marine Renewable Structures. We are also home to the Offshore Renewables Institute.
During the design module, you will have the opportunity to work with experts from world-leading oil and gas and marine renewable energy industries. This will give you an extra advantage, whether you pursue a PhD or join industry or government.
There are excellent career opportunities within the industry. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the course, opportunities for graduates arise in:
- renewable energy,
- oil and gas,
- coastal engineering,
- offshore engineering,
- naval architecture,
- and subsea engineering sectors.
We are proud of our achievements in graduate employment. We blend science and technology with management education in a unique learning environment. This makes our graduates attractive to employers in civil and ocean engineering and a wide range of related sectors.
Our graduates achieve high level positions in various engineering sectors. Some have gone on to managing and technical roles as consulting engineers and contractors in the offshore and others in the construction industries and research organisations.
