About Events Management Msc in University of Derby

Our lecturers are specialists in events management, and are members of professional bodies including the Association for Events Educators (AEMA), and the Professional Event Safety Group. You will draw on their expertise gained through professional experience and academic research.

Your campus will be the inspirational Devonshire Dome, which is a major events venue in its own right. This magnificent grade II* listed building, which forms the heart of the Centre for Contemporary Hospitality and Tourism, hosts an action-packed programme of premier events, from banquets to wedding, conferences to exhibitions.

You can study this flexible course full or part-time. Or take our blended learning option and study while working. The full time option also offers a work placement in the UK or abroad.

There are many opportunities for you to meet industry professionals as we invite guest speakers and organise industry days on campus. There are also opportunities to work on real life projects helping you to combine theory and practice.

We are accredited by the Institute of Hospitality - assuring you of our good industry links and reputation, and that our course provides you with the knowledge understanding, skills and experience to prepare you for a career in events management.

Our award-winning academic team are widely published authors contributing to academic and industry journals. 

You will develop your understanding of events operations, planning, risk management, marketing, finance and strategy; and you will have the opportunity to apply this understanding to conferences, exhibitions, festivals, product launches, trade shows and sporting events.

The teaching and learning methods we use include lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, practical fieldwork exercises and online learning materials. Whether you are studying the MSc Events Management full or part-time, independent learning will account for around 60% of your time.

On average, 20 credit modules take 200 hours to complete, 40 credit modules take 400 hours and 60 credit modules take 600 hours.

All MSc Events Management modules are taught within the academic calendar (September through to July), but the pattern of delivery is flexible depending on the needs of the cohort, industry and university. It may include weekends, a block study week, weekly during the academic year or blended learning.

The assessment methods we use are designed to hone your professional skills and include briefing reports, pitches, presentations, essays, unseen examinations and case studies.

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised Institutions. All subjects are considered, but possession of degrees or relevant experience in related subjects will be advantageous
