About Dental Studies (dental Care Professionals), Bsc (hons) in University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)
The BSc (Hons) Dental Studies (Dental Care Professionals) provides academic development opportunities for dental hygienists and dental therapists, through a flexible, supportive and challenging series of specialised modules. Final year only for qualified Dental Hygienists/Dental Hygiene/Therapists.
Our Dental Studies course aims to develop professional knowledge and skills in a structured higher education environment, with a view to enabling participants to take a well-informed and active role in improving the oral health of the population.
The course also aims to raise critical appreciation of the political, legal and ethical framework within which dental care is practised. You will also be given an opportunity for in-depth study into core areas of interest.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT
A 3 year degree qualification typically comprises 360 credits and each 20 credit (a standard module) equates to 200 hours of study, which comprises of a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and independent study. Independent study is an important aspect of your degree course. The exact combination of study time will be detailed within your module descriptors, and will depend on your option choices.
The course will be taught in modern well-equipped classrooms by tutors selected for their knowledge and expertise. The course team includes specialists and dentists, together with experienced academics who will provide personal tutorial support and overall course coordination. The University has an excellent range of electronic resources to support the course and guidance will provide at the induction on access to these.
Each module is assessed independently using a range of assessment techniques that are appropriate to the learning outcomes and contents of the module. Examples of assessments include essays, portfolios and there is one exam.
