Alongside programming skills, you’ll study areas including maths for games, scripting for game engines, console development and computational thinking. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with students studying games art and design, giving you a broad comprehension and appreciation of gaming skills that will put you in the best possible position to start a career in this growing industry after graduation.
Throughout your studies you will learn in our high-specification industry grade labs, enabling you to learn the tools and techniques of game development, from the basics of programming through to publishing a completed game. These labs offer all of the specialist software you’ll need including; Visual Studio, DirectX, OpenGL, Github, UDK 4.0, Unity, Photoshop, 3D studio max, Maya and ZBrush.
You’ll be taught by highly experienced academics with vast experience of the gaming industry, and excellent industry links. These close links enable you to benefit from a range of guest lectures throughout your studies, and gain valuable critiques on your work. Recent speakers have included representatives from Stainless Games, Unity and Aardvark Swift.
There is also the opportunity to attend conferences and events, and even get involved in competitions such as Gamejams, helping you to build vital industry contacts and hone your practical skills.
