About Msc Environmental Management in Sheffield Hallam University
- Cover the core knowledge and competencies required for a career in environmental management.
- Specialise in wildlife and landscape management, international resource management, or design your own course based on modules offered for the above two routes.
Many of the staff teaching on the course have worked in the sector, and retain a strong involvement with it. As a result they are able to draw on their own experience and use a range of case studies in their teaching.
Live projects
You may have the opportunity to take a module where you act as a consultant, completing a project for an organisation outside of the University.
Field trips
Field visits allow you to see examples of principles covered and to practice techniques. Recent visits have included cultural landscape management in the Peak District and lowland peat bogs, ecological survey in local farmland, sustainable housing design, and innovative waste management practises in Sheffield. Where possible these visits will involve external professionals responsible for the site or process being examined.
Networking opportunities
Our staff have good contacts with individuals and organisations working in the field. This allows you to engage with professionals both within the course and through extra-curricular activities. These contacts will enhance your understanding of the different roles and organisations within the environmental sector and help you to gain experience of the sector. You can also draw on University services that support graduate employability and enterprise, including a careers event.
Future careers
The environmental management sector is broad and so offers a wide range of employment opportunities. The environmental consultancy sector, which spans both ecology and resource management, is strong and so is the main source of employment for our graduates.
