This course is designed for people who are captivated by fashion and its connections to lifestyle and society. You'll develop a new sense of innovation and transparency for future industry practice by exploring sustainability, socio-cultural factors, consumption and responsibility.
You will develop your communication skills using a diverse range of software and creative media, and techniques including digital graphic design and print, photography, moving image and interactive media. You'll develop your management skills by directing projects and learning marketing methodologies which can be applied to new fashion trends and consumer experiences.
You’ll learn through
Work placements
You’ll have the opportunity to arrange a single or multiple work placement/s in between your second and third years. Placements give you real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Previous students have worked with Dazed Media, SHOWstudio, Nike, Hugo Boss and Urban Outfitters. You may also be able to work or study abroad with the possibility of funding (subject to the UK’s continued participation in the Erasmus+ programme following the Brexit transition period).
Live projects
During the course, you'll be introduced to a variety of practical industry tasks and activities in collaboration with contemporary fashion brands and practitioners. Students have previously worked on exclusive live projects with brands such as John Lewis, Adidas, USP Trend, Weekday and French Connection, and have been awarded cash incentives or work placement offers upon completion. You'll also have the opportunity to participate in industry-recognised events and engagements with Graduate Fashion Week and the British Fashion Council.
Field trips
We endeavour to go on study trips and visits in the UK and abroad – with free travel and accommodation for all mandatory field trips on the course. These could include workshops, design conferences or visits to practitioners’ studios, museums and special collections. You may further enhance your studies with optional field trips, though these will incur additional costs. Previous trips have included exclusive, behind-the-scenes invitations to the headquarters of Dazed Media, WGSN, Gucci and Marc Jacobs, in addition to visiting leading fashion, communication and design museums.
