About Sound And Music Computing With Ie Msc in Queen Mary University of London
You will gain an understanding of the design and software development process for music recording, analysis and synthesis for home, studio and live performance environments. You will study data analysis and signal processing techniques related to human speech and hearing, psychoacoustics and masking, and instrument and room acoustics.
You will begin by studying music perception and cognition. If you require further background on digital signal processing (DSP), you can take a module in the fundamentals of DSP. Thereafter, you can choose from a range of modules, focusing on areas such as recording and mixing, music production, audio processing, digital effects, machine listening, interactive sound and music systems, music information retrieval, new instrument design, musical expression.
The taught modules are fully supported with computing and laboratory work.
You will devise and carry out a major dissertation, which you can choose to do in collaboration with an industrial partner.
During your industry placement, you will learn to apply key technical knowledge and skills from your taught modules in the workplace; enhancing your employment potential and understanding where you need to improve. You will secure the placement yourself with support from the Placement Team. This module is only open to students enrolled on the programme of study with integrated placement.
