About Ecology And Evolutionary Biology Msc in Queen Mary University of London
Global ecological change is occurring at a rapid rate and we are seeing an unprecedented spread of diseases, collapses in biodiversity and disruption to ecosystems. This programme aims to provide an understanding not just of patterns in the natural environment, but the ecological and evolutionary factors that drive them - from the behaviour of individual organisms to population and whole-community dynamics.
Through demonstrations and practical assignments, you will consider taxonomy, conservation and evolution, and delve into current developments in the field, including whole genome duplication and anthropogenic factors affecting rainforests.
In the second semester, you will have the opportunity to focus on a topic that interests you and conduct your own substantive six-month research project. This involves field sampling, experimentation, laboratory work and data analysis which may be jointly supervised by highly-regarded contacts from related institutes or within industry - giving you excellent networking opportunities.
As this course is developed to give you a practical education, you will conduct fieldwork, lab projects and advanced analytical research at the Freshwater Biological Association's River Laboratory in Dorset, during a week-long field trip, and take part in a trip to Borneo.
