About Clinical Foundation Studies in Queen Mary University of London
This one-year foundation programme offers international students – who may not have had the chance to study A-level equivalent qualifications – the chance to achieve the right academic level, as well as English language and academic skills, to study an undergraduate degree.
It provides a basic introduction to Clinical Medicine and Dentistry as well as Biology, Maths, Physics and Chemistry tuition which is equivalent to A-levels, if you do not already have A-level equivalents.
Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be able to graduate with a Foundation Certificate (FdCert). Progression onto the MBBS Medicine Malta degree will be possible if you earn at least 120 credits and meet our other progression requirements.
As a foundation student you’ll have full access to all student facilities, including welfare, library, social and sport. You’ll be taught on our Whitechapel campus by experienced university staff who also teach on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
Academic qualification equivalents

Students who have successfully completed Standard XII examinations will be considered for entry onto our undergraduate degrees across the full disciplinary spectrum.
As a minimum requirement, students who have taken Central Board/State Board examinations and achieved in the range of 75% to 85% will be considered for first year entry.
English language requirements (one of the below):
- IELTS :7.0 overall including 6.5 in Writing, and 5.5 in Reading, Listening and Speaking.
- TOEFL IBT:100 overall including 24 in Writing, 18 in Reading, 17 in Listening and 20 in Speaking.
- PTE: 68 overall including 62 in Writing, and 51 in Reading, Listening and Speaking.
