This course will challenge your perceptions, ideas and understanding of sport coaching and development. You’ll journey into the world of sport, grasping the key theories around the subject and developing the practical skills to put them into action.
Our Sport: Coaching and Development programme has been designed to build your knowledge in a broad range of areas, from coaching practice and techniques, to sport history, sociology and development. Study at Manchester Met and you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the sport landscape, exploring current issues and evaluating the relevant policies. We'll help you to gain a good understanding of sport-based interventions, while equipping you with the practical skills to be a coach and educator. You will also have the opportunity to spend an extra year expanding your horizons, working on a placement in industry.

Coaching careers exist within academic institutions such as schools and colleges, as well as in community sports clubs and facilities. There will also be opportunities within health and fitness providers such as gyms, leisure centres and local-government owned sports departments. A degree in Sports Coaching may also lead to a career with national governing bodies of sport, commercial companies and professional sports clubs, both nationally and internationally.
Graduates from this course could find employment in a variety of areas, such as international sports coaching, managing coaching programmes, developing coaching strategies, match analysis, personal training or even finding success as an entrepreneur after starting their own sports and leisure companies. Many students will progress to masters level study.
