About Physiotherapy | Bsc (hons) in Leeds Beckett University

Course Details

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession which involves working with people to improve their own health and wellbeing. You will learn to use physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical function. During your studies on campus and work placements, you will develop collaborative working skills, putting them into practice working with patients, their carers and other health professionals. Your course will encourage reflective practice to aid your professional development.

Funding
From 1 August 2017 there will be a new funding system for new students on nursing, midwifery and AHP pre-registration courses in England, with the system moving from NHS grants to student loans. Download the University Funding PDF below for more information.

Course Benefits

Throughout your three years of study with us you will have the opportunity to experience placements within a variety of health and social care settings, including sports clubs, schools and private clinics in speciality areas such as cardio vascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, neurology and paediatrics.

You will also have the chance to get involved with many volunteering activities, and we have partnerships with local and international charities. Plus, guest speakers from a range of clinical specialities will support your lectures and practical sessions.

If you wish to pursue a career in sport, you may be interested in our four-year pathway that comprises the full-time three-year BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy course and a one-year postgraduate MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine - the MSc may be studied on a full-time or part-time basis.

The MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine course will allow you to develop the understanding and skills to care for individuals of all standards who undertake regular physical activity. You will also have opportunities to gain National Governing Body awards and appropriate CPD training, such as the Football Association's Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF) and Clinical Exercise Prescription. Research is an integral part of the course and personalised supervision can be provided by academic staff from our Musculoskeletal Research Group.

To participate in this pathway, you will need to first apply for and undertake the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy course via UCAS. Your interest in sports medicine will be recorded during your first undergraduate year of study, and we will help you find appropriate clinical placements and supervise your research module. To progress on to the MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine course, you must graduate from your undergraduate degree with a 2:2 classification.

On successful completion of the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy course you are eligible to apply to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as qualified physiotherapist. This will enable you to work while undertaking your MSc studies.
