About Fine Art | BA (hons) in Leeds Beckett University
Course Details
Push the limits of your creativity and experiment with painting, performance, installation, photography, drawing, printmaking, animation, digital processes and other media. You will be taught by nationally and internationally recognised artists and practitioners, who will help you to develop your artistic identity. You will also participate in seminars, collaborative on and off-site activities and live curatorial projects.
We will nurture your critical and thinking skills so that you will be able to understand your own work and that of others within a range of social, cultural and philosophical contexts.
We will give you the opportunity to show off your projects to the public and impress industry by exhibiting your work at the end of your final year.
You can see examples of our students' work on our Leeds School of Art and in our end of year show publication.
The INSIDE/OUT lecture series offers historical, theoretical and critical analyses of art, architecture and design and welcomes internationally recognised practitioners to come and talk about their practice. Find out about forthcoming events on the INSIDE/OUT webpage
Course Benefits
As well being given the opportunity to exhibit each year, you will be encouraged to take a proactive approach, collaborate with others and make your own opportunities - just as you will in the real world.
Leeds has a thriving visual arts scene and our students have formed their own collectives, participating in the annual Light Night event and even setting up their own galleries. Final year students will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work at our annual Degree Show, which is attended by arts professionals from across the country.
The course also has a Visiting Lecturer Programme for you to engage with professional practicing artists and gain a valuable insight into how creative individuals operate in a world beyond the University. Each week an artist is invited to give a lecture to students about their work and students are encouraged to meet with the artist on an individual basis to discuss their work after the lecture. This opportunity will help inform your ideas and the evolution of your own practice.
