Course Details
Data is recognised as a key asset in any organisation and a means by which to gain information, insight and understanding. If you already have intellectual curiosity, enjoy solving problems and asking questions, this course will develop these skills further. You will study data analysis techniques and learn how to apply them to investigate social issues, such as crime connections, business insight, including marketing channels, and scientific innovations including smart houses.
The course will cover a number of key themes from data management and data analytics such as machine learning, to statistics and programming. Informed by a deeper knowledge of data principles and practical considerations, you will gain an in-depth understanding of core data analysis techniques. Using open source data and tools such as python and SQL, tableau and KNIME, you will learn how to identify data to inform your investigation, how to pre-process data to ensure quality results, how to select appropriate analysis techniques for the task and finally how to choose methods, including visualisations, to convey the message. You will also have the opportunity to interact with industry experts to gain connections and an insight of the roles available within the field.
Your experiences on this course will see you develop a strong knowledge of data and understand the importance of ethics and data governance in your approach to data science.
