About Games Development - Bsc/bsc (hons) in Edinburgh Napier University

A degree course in Games Development prepares you for the technical end of this exciting entertainment industry. This course provides you with opportunities in the games industry, related research and development companies as well as traditional software engineering.

On successful completion of this programme you will have the knowledge, understanding and skills to gain graduate-level employment in games development and the software industry in general.

Your studies are designed to provide entry into the core software engineering layer of the digital entertainment industry. From here, you will be able to progress into a wide range of career paths, both technical and managerial. Based on sound software engineering principles, the course will also equip you for a software engineering career in the wider computing industry.

Course details

In your first year you will cover a wide area of computing related subjects.

In your second year, the emphasis is on the development of your software development skills that you will start to apply to games-related problems (real-time Computer Graphics).

The third year builds on the foundation established in the first two years to further your understanding of Games Development concepts and techniques, from Artificial Intelligence to Games Engineering.

In the final year of the degree, you will study advanced topics and complete your Honours Project.

To apply for our bachelors courses, you should have completed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) with overall 60% or above in the Intermediate (10+2) (XII Standard) exam.

You should have 60% or higher in English in the Indian HSC Intermediate (10+2) (XII Standard) exam and have completed an undergraduate degree taught and examined in English within the past 2 years. If you graduated more than 2 years ago, we will consider your application on a case-by-case basis.

6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5

TOEFL Internet Based Test

80 overall with a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing

Pearson’s Test of Academic English

56 overall with a minimum of 51 in each component

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, other tests that are accepted by the university include TOEFL ‘At Home’ Test (same scores as of TOEFL iBT), IELTS Indicator (same scores as of TOEFL iBT), online Edinburgh Napier English Language Courses, Duolingo, and IELTS Academic tests taken more than two years but less than four years will be considered with the use of English language in work or education during that period playing a big role.
