Contour Fashion was established at DMU in 1947 and has unparalleled links with the UK and global intimate apparel industry – and this related programme is the only communication course in the UK aimed directly at that industry. It prepares you for career opportunities in marketing, promotion, trend prediction, product development and entrepreneurship.
The course is designed to meet the changing requirements of this global fashion business and you will develop skills in concept inspiration, idea development, image, trend, styling, enterprise and business, industry and communication, social media applications and marketing. Our curriculum is informed by industry which ensures that your learning is in-keeping with the latest sector developments, for instance you will explore the recent growth in comfort-inspired, fashion-driven work attire following the global shift to remote working. There are also many opportunities to work with national and international companies on live projects, work placements, competitions and awards.
You will be taught by highly experienced professionals who have worked with well-known brands within the industry and by visiting lecturers from the wider fashion and intimates industry.

Core modules such as Visual Communication, Trends and Product Development, and Fashion Marketing and Entrepreneurship are shared with our Contour Fashion and Fashion Buying courses, enabling you to work collaboratively, explore ideas and be part of a dynamic community of fashion-focused students.
Work on live projects with industry experts to gain valuable professional, research, communication and business skills. Recent briefs have been set by Gymshark, British brand Coco de Mer, ASOS and Lycra.
Gain real-world work experience through an optional placement year. Past students have worked with companies including Agent Provocateur, H&M and Tommy Hilfiger.
Benefit from a valuable international experience as part of your studies with our DMU Global programme. Previous trips have taken students overseas to visit trade fairs such as Interfilière and Salon International de la Lingerie.
The award-winning Vijay Patel Building, home to all of our art and design students, provides both the space and the facilities to foster creative thinking.
Contour Fashion BA (Hons) is a related course where you can specialise in areas including lingerie, athleisure, swimwear, loungewear, nightwear, corsetry and menswear.

A good portfolio and normally:
Plus five GCSEs grades 9-4 including English Language or Literature at grade 4 or above.
We will normally require students to have had a break from full time education before undertaking the Access course.
International students
If English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each band, or equivalent when you start the course is essential. English Language tuition, delivered by our British Council accredited Centre for English Language Learning, is available both before and throughout the course if you need it.
