Physiotherapy Bsc (hons) in Coventry University, UK
Physiotherapy Bsc (hons) in Coventry University
If you care for others and enjoy helping people in need, a Physiotherapy degree could suit you as well as stimulate your mind.
Becoming a physiotherapist offers the opportunity for a challenging, rewarding and satisfying career. You will make a real difference to the quality of life for your clients, enhancing their health and wellbeing by restoring functional movement.
Accredited by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), this course provides the skills, knowledge and experience to provide safe, effective physiotherapy practice, enabling you to apply to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
A distinctive feature of our course is that your skills development and essential learning takes place in your first year, before you go on placements in the second and third year of your degree. Feedback from past students and placement providers suggests this optimises the experience for all concerned, ensuring you are well prepared and effectively ‘ready to go’ by the time you enter professional settings.
Why Coventry University?
An award-winning university, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible experience. We continue to invest in both our facilities and our innovative approach to education. Our students benefit from industry-relevant teaching, and resources and support designed to help them succeed. These range from our modern library and computing facilities to dedicated careers advice and our impressive Students’ Union activities.
Course information
Responding to the changing climate within the NHS, this programme aims to develop physiotherapists who can work effectively, efficiently and collaboratively in a range of different health care settings.
You will be encouraged to adopt a professional ethos which places the patient or client at the centre of the therapeutic process, developing the ability to deliver the most appropriate treatment, based on the evidence you are presented with, sensitively and to the highest standards, working respectfully as needed within a multidisciplinary team.
Career prospects
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) suggests that there is a huge demand and excellent employment prospects for newly qualified physiotherapists, about 90% of whom will work for the National Health Service (NHS) – either for an acute trust or in the community.
The expanding role of the physiotherapist within both the public and private sectors, however, offers many career pathways within the NHS, industry, community settings, sport and the private, independent and voluntary sectors. Our course provides eligibility to apply for further study, for example, on Physiotherapy and Health Studies Master’s courses. It also enables you to apply to individual physiotherapy governing bodies for overseas accreditation to work as a qualified physiotherapist in that country.
Throughout the course, you will be encouraged with support from tutors to develop a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio, which illustrates your commitment to lifelong learning and is required throughout a professional’s career by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
This portfolio demonstrates evidence of your capabilities in communication, cooperation and collaboration. Further support is available from the University’s Careers and Employability team.
The strong clinical component and multiple placement opportunities ensure you gain the knowledge and practical expertise required by potential employers. This is one of the many reasons why 100% of Coventry University graduates are employed or in further study six months after completing the course (DLHE survey, 2016/17). In your final year, we aim to invite local NHS employers to attend our annual careers fair, which coincides with the Year Three poster conference.
Coventry University is committed to preparing you for your future career and giving you a competitive edge in the graduate job market. The University's Careers and Employability team provide a wide range of support services to help you plan and prepare for your career.
