About Operating Department Practice Diphe in Coventry University

Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) are important members of the surgical or perioperative team. They work in a specialist and dynamic environment, providing care during the anaesthetic, surgical and post anaesthetic or recovery phases of a patient’s journey throughout their time in hospital.

The role requires practitioners with in-depth knowledge and skills in areas such as anatomy and physiology, illness and disease, surgical and anaesthetic procedures, legal and ethical issues, and the ability to work as a team player.

This exciting and challenging course aims to equip you with the skills required to care for patients undergoing surgery and anaesthesia. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside highly trained and professional staff within the NHS and the private sector, be taught by tutors with real-life experience, and take advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities in the new Alison Gingell Building. Completion of the course will make you eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a qualified ODP.
