About Llminternational Energy Law And Regulation LLM | in City University London
The specialism in International Energy Law and Regulation will appeal to students at all stages of their career and from around the world who have an interest in the energy sector from a global perspective. It will enable you to develop your career in private commercial practice, as in-house counsel in the energy sector or to embark on policy-oriented careers in government or the private sector.
Objectives
The International Energy Law and Regulation specialist LLM is one of very few LLMs in the UK and elsewhere which provide you with an in-depth and comprehensive study of energy law and regulation. Other than coverage of widely discussed sources of energy, such as oil and gas, the course also addresses issues around the renewable and low carbon sector. The modules on offer will touch on the practical aspects of energy contracts, the regulation of the energy sector, the geo-political issues arising from the exploitation of energy and the resolution of international energy disputes.
You will have an opportunity to study how international public and private law intersect to ensure that energy resources are lawfully protected, exploited and traded. Equally crucially is an exploration of how the law provides for the sustainable development of energy resources, globally and nationally. From a commercial standpoint, you will be introduced to various energy related contractual arrangements including licensing, exploration, production sharing, financing, transportation and refinery activities. For students who are interested in the dynamics of international litigation and dispute resolution in this highly sensitive sector of the industry, you may choose also to study international rules relating to jurisdiction, choice of law and arbitration, including the developing system under the Energy Charter Treaty. Some students may find competition law to be a good complementary module for the diet - the energy sector is subject to competition law in many jurisdictions.
