Medicine in Anglia Ruskin University

As a medical student at ARU, you’ll have use of our cutting-edge skills laboratories and cadaveric anatomy suite. Our experienced tutors include consultants, surgeons, nurses and GPs – and they’re joined by visiting clinicians from NHS Trusts.

But you won’t just learn on campus. Placements start early and continue throughout your course. You’ll get experience in primary and acute care settings, and in specialist medical centres.

There’s a genuine need for qualified medical professionals and, as a doctor, you’ll be ready to build a bright future for yourself – and your patients.

This degree will prepare you for a rewarding career in the NHS as a foundation doctor and beyond.

We have an integrated modern curriculum, where you’ll be on placement in primary and secondary care from the early months of your course. You’ll be given a robust foundation in the clinical sciences combined with clinical experience, leadership, quality improvement, innovation and technology for health.

Your training for clinical experience will include placements in primary care, mental health, five acute care providers and tertiary units in Essex, such as the St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns and the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre. On campus teaching will take place in our cutting-edge, purpose-built School of Medicine, fitted out with the latest laboratory equipment and cadaveric anatomy suite.

Our curriculum is innovative, student-centred and community-based, which combined with the East of England location and its mix of urban and rural areas, offers a diverse and all-encompassing experience for medical students.

We’ll build your knowledge up gradually and revisit aspects of learning throughout the course. This allows you to form links between scientific concepts, clinical practice and professionalism to deepen your understanding.

As a new School of Medicine, our MBChB course is subject to successful progress through the General Medical Council’s rigorous quality assurance programme.
