Our FdSc Computing and Information Systems studies the principles and technologies underpinning the systems that are driving this change.
It provides an opportunity to learn about these directly through a combination of work-based learning and in the classroom. The field of computer science offers a wealth of opportunity across a range of specialist fields. The variety of course options on offer means that you can fine-tune your degree to focus on particular areas of interest or to meet the requirements of a favoured career.
Upon completion of this course you will:
- exhibit an understanding of the knowledge and concepts of Computer Science, incorporating the theory, principles and operation of the underlying technologies and methodologies
- apply the methods and principles of Computer Science in the analysis, design, and implementation of solutions in a select range of application domains in information systems, software and communications
- implement and administer organisation wide information technology and communication systems
- work effectively as a team member and to develop as a professional within the discipline and as a technically able practitioner within an organisation
- develop as an independent learner and reflective practitioner
- recognise the professional, moral and ethical standards of the Computing Profession and to be aware of the responsibility in the use and development of applications which impinge on the working and personal lives of users and other professionals.
You will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- essential facts, concepts, principles and theories relating to computer science and computer applications
- the technical properties of hardware, software, information systems and their use and evaluation in a variety of application domains
- the role of design and planning in a computing context and how to act in a systematic and organised way when applying computing analysis, methodologies and techniques
- how to identify a problem within the computing domain and develop specialist knowledge within that area, provide appropriate analysis, develop potential solutions and evaluate their effectiveness
- the scope, depth and the limitations of your knowledge and how to access and interpret information resources.
Academic qualification equivalents
- HSC/Standard 12 with an overall average of 50% from the West Bengal exam board
- HSC/Standard 12 with an overall average of 55% from the following exam boards: CBSE, Delhi, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu
- HSC/Standard 12 with an overall average of 60% with at least 40% in a minimum of 5 subjects from any other exam board
- a recognised foundation qualification
English language requirements
If English is not your first language you'll need to be able to show you have the required level of English language. This is so we can ensure you'll be able to follow your course.
- Our standard entry criteria for undergraduate courses is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with nothing lower than 5.5 in any of the four elements (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
- ETS TOEFL iBT with 80 overall and a minimum of 17 in Writing and Listening, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking
- Pearson PTE with 57 overall and a minimum of 51 in all components.
