About Professional Accountancy Msc in Coventry University

This course has been designed to facilitate your personal, professional and academic development – and help to prepare you for professional exams.

We intend for this course to help you achieve a Master’s qualification, as well as prepare you for the Strategic Professional level qualification of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the world’s leading body for professional accountants.

You will have the opportunity to complete modules mirroring the Strategic Professional papers of the ACCA, and while you will need to undertake ACCA exam papers at an external ACCA examination centre to gain the Strategic Professional qualification, Coventry Business School is recognised as an ACCA GOLD Approved learning partner which we believe puts us in a good position to facilitate our students completion of ACCA exams.

This course aims to develop strategic knowledge and understanding, critical thinking and analysis, and advanced skills within an international accounting and finance context.

Why Coventry University?

An award-winning university, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible experience. We continue to invest in both our facilities and our innovative approach to education. Our students benefit from industry-relevant teaching, and resources and support designed to help them succeed. These range from our modern library and computing facilities to dedicated careers advice and our impressive Students’ Union activities.

Course information

This course aims to develop strategic knowledge and understanding, critical thinking and analysis, and advanced skills within an international accounting and finance context toward achieving a Master’s qualification, whilst also preparing students for ACCA examinations, through the study of modules mirroring the Strategic Professional papers of the ACCA.

This course aims to enable you to build upon existing accounting and finance learning and provide you with an opportunity to develop post-graduate level knowledge. Further, this course has been designed to provide an opportunity to develop commercial awareness and demonstrate critical appraisal of alternative solutions to financial decision-making based upon systematic analysis of complex business problems.

Upon successful completion, you should be able to graduate equipped with a range of employability skills, attributes and attitudes, including developing effective problem-solving skills which could enable you to advise local and international individuals and organisations on a range of business-related matters.

Alongside employability skills, you will also have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate a capacity for independent research, together with the ability to present solutions to complex accounting and finance problems using a range of media appropriate to the profession.

Career prospects

Upon successful completion of this Master's degree, you may decide to apply for roles within the accounting or finance industry and could become for example, a finance manager, financial controller, or senior management and financial accountant.

Should you wish to, you will also be able to undertake the ACCA examination at the Strategic Professional level (subject to availability, fees apply), with this course's modules tailored to mirror the content of that examination. Passing the ACCA examination may help you progress through your career, as a survey carried out by ACCA has shown 95% of employers see ACCA as a respected brand for professional qualifications which could therefore imply that companies value the business acumen, ethical integrity and financial know-how of successful candidates of the ACCA qualification.

Applicants should hold a minimum of a 2.2 undergraduate Honours degree in accounting or a related field, as well as having passed or been given an exemption from the whole of the ‘fundamental’ level of ACCA qualifications. Applicants without all of the ACCA’s ‘fundamental’ qualifications but with prior relevant accounting experience will be considered on a case by case basis.

Further information on acceptable qualifications:

  • A minimum 2.2 undergraduate Honours degree in accounting which gives exemption against the whole of the “fundamentals” level of ACCA.
  • A minimum 2.2 related undergraduate Honours degree which gives exemption against the “fundamentals” level of ACCA.
  • Through study and/or through exemption, having passed or been exempted from ‘fundamentals’ level of ACCA.
  • Equivalent passes at professional papers with other related bodies such as CIMA and ICAEW with significant accounting content which would gain exemption from the ‘fundamentals’ level of the ACCA programme.

English as a Foreign Language: This course requires IELTS of 7.0 overall. Pre-sessional English is available if required.
