What is the programme about?

The aim of this four-year Business with Enterprise & Innovation programme is to develop in the graduate entrepreneurial, commercial and practical business skills.

Graduates will acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and competencies along with the innovative and creative thinking mindset necessary to succeed in new business ventures, but also the management skills and knowledge required to allow employment in established businesses and / or entrepreneurial support organisations.

An “Active Enterprise” project in conjunction with start-up enterprises in Year 3 along with the development of a full Business Plan in Year 4 are critical elements of the programme.

Who is the programme suited to?

For those students who have ‘an innovative idea for a product, technology or service’, this programme aims to equip the student with skills to translate the idea into a viable business concept. Alternatively, graduates of this programme will have the competencies to support the entrepreneur with the ‘innovative idea’ in creating a competitive and sustainable commercial enterprise.

Programme Aims:

To develop in the learner those attitudes, technical and managerial skills to be an entrepreneur or support an entrepreneur, this programme adopts a teaching, learning and assessment strategy rooted in active learning. Projects and assignments will have industry involvement, where possible.

18-24 hours per week depending on the year.

Did You Know?

Graduates of this programme may become entrepreneurs whereby, as an individual or as a group, student endeavour to commercialise a product or concept they have developed over the four years of the programme. Alternatively students who complete this programme would be employed in a supportive role for or within start-up companies due to their understanding of the unique environment of the start-up. Graduates will also have employment routes available to them where business skills are required.

Further Studies

After successfully completing this programme, the opportunity may be available for graduates to gain access to the Hartnett Enterprise Acceleration Centre or the National Franchise Centre in Limerick City for commercialisation of a product or service. Graduates will also be suitable for employment in enterprise support agencies and established businesses.

Entry Requirement

Leaving Certificate: A minimum of 2 H5 & 4 O6/H7 grades in six Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English or Irish.
