About Construction – Higher Certificate In Science in Limerick Institute of Technology
What is the programme about?
This programme provides the student with an understanding of the construction of buildings including methods of construction, types of building materials, services in buildings (e.g heating, air conditioning, etc.), production of construction drawings, surveying & setting out, building safety and law, etc.
This programme also addresses the economics of construction, sustainable construction technologies and sustainable building services, which provides the student with an understanding of how to construct buildings in a sustainable manner in the construction industry of the future.

The programme is suited to students from second level and mature students, seeking an entry level qualification to the construction industry.

Further Studies
A graduate from this programme would be involved in a range of construction related activities, including the production of drawings, surveying and setting out, organising and supervising of plant and equipment on site, the resourcing and testing of construction materials, as well as assisting in the supervision of the work of subcontractors and craft operatives, estimating the cost of materials and work completed and liaising with suppliers in relation to the supply and delivery of materials.
Graduates from the programme will be ideally placed to take advantage of the opportunities arising in sustainable construction and public investment in the future. Graduates can also progress to Level 7 programmes at LIT.
Entry Requirement
A minimum of 5 O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English or Irish.
