About International Law LLB (hons) in Coventry University

Our International Law degree could set you on the path towards qualifying as a solicitor or barrister, but equally can act as preliminary training for a range of other careers, recognised by employers as providing the transferable professional skills they demand.

From international business transactions to matters relating to war and peace and state responsibility, this course will equip you with an understanding and appreciation of the legal issues that arise in our globalised world.

From 2021, to become a Solicitor and/or Barrister in England and Wales you must either have an undergraduate degree, or equivalent experience (for example, by completing a degree level apprenticeship). Importantly, a Coventry undergraduate law degree should prepare candidates for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination Stage 1 test, as required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in order to become a Solicitor, and for the Academic pathway, as required by the Bar Standards Board in order to become a Barrister.

Course information

Law degrees at Coventry Law School are required to cover the foundations of legal knowledge. These subjects are Contract Law, Tort Law, Criminal Law, Law of the European Union, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Property Law, and Equity and Trusts, as well as the English Legal System.

Your specialist areas of study aim to provide you have the knowledge and skills employers expect of an international law graduate. You will study specialist international law subjects such as: Comparative Law, Public International Law, International Commercial Law, International Criminal Law, and Human Rights.

Career prospects

Understanding law from a global perspective, you will be ideally equipped to specialise in international law within the English legal profession or to pursue work within international business and organisations dealing with wider global issues.

Many of our graduates have qualified as barristers or solicitors and now occupy a range of senior legal positions. Not all law students wish to enter the legal profession and a law degree can provide an excellent foundation for many careers.
