Program Description:
The Master of Education (Counselling Psychology) program is designed to provide training for people who want to develop professional skills and certification in counselling psychology. The emphasis of the program is on the provision of counsellor training for those individuals who aspire to be a Canadian Certified Counsellor or Registered Psychologist.
As a student in this program you will
- focus on the understanding and acquisition of communication skills in interpersonal and counselling contexts
- learn the historical and theoretical foundations in counselling psychology
- develop a framework for the planning and implementation of client change interventions in counselling psychology
- become familiar with a variety of assessment procedures commonly used in counselling settings
- gain a thorough understanding of the process of career counselling
- address professional and ethical issues in the practice, science and regulation of counselling psychology
- develop an understanding of gender and cultural issues in counselling
- experience supervised practice in counselling psychology settings
This program is offered full-time on-campus for the first year. The second year of program includes practicum placements which can be completed at a distance with limited on-campus requirements.
