About Film Production in Toronto Film School

The program offers an intensive, behind-the-scenes education that covers all areas of filmmaking. You will experience every phase of pre-production, production and post-production while learning from industry-active filmmakers with projects such as Beauty and the Beast, Black Panther, The Shape of Water and Star Trek Beyond to their credit. The program covers various aspects of filmmaking, including writing and analyzing screenplays, developing storyboards, creating shot lists and preparing budgets and schedules. You will learn to shoot, direct, block, light scenes and capture audio, as well as assemble, cut and manipulate footage. Upon graduationthe Film Production Work Placement helps you experience the creative workforce through placement opportunities in Canada’s “Hollywood North.”

Success in screen industries comes from a blend of education, experience and connections. The 6 and 12-month Film Production Work Placements offer you an opportunity to obtain all three ingredients. Through curated work opportunities, you will be embedded in the industry. You will have the chance to work with multiple companies and work alongside professionals on film projects in Toronto.

Cross collaboration

We provide a unique opportunity for cross-industry collaboration. You’ll bring your productions to life, working with students across creative programs including Writing for Film and TV, Acting for Film, TV & the Theatre and Video Game Design. Through both on-campus and off-campus productions, you’ll be mentored by a variety of cross-industry professionals.

 

Real world education

From your first term, you are on set, behind the camera, inside editing stations and in distribution meetings. You produce at least one film project per term and gain hands-on experience, working each position on set, in a range of productions. You learn how to shoot in multiple styles with access to Toronto Film School’s studios and industry-standard cameras like the ALEXA Mini and ARRI Amira. The Film Production Work Placement then elevates all that you have learned in school to the next level and gives you the unique opportunity to work in studios and production houses in Toronto.

You’ll be mentored by a variety of award-winning and in-demand filmmakers. Working directors, assistant directors, producers, production managers, cinematographers, camera operators, writers and distributors all bring invaluable industry practices and insights into the classroom.

Toronto Film School Average Tuition Fees And Other Expenses

For all the prospective candidates hoping to enroll at the institute in the upcoming sessional year, an estimated cost of living in Canada has been tabulated below.

  • Within two days of payment or contract, Students can cancel a payment with written notice of cancellation.
  • Every student is entitled to a refund of fees paid for a program; however, The Toronto Film School is allowed to retain 20% of the total fees for the program. (whichever is less).

Toronto Film School Application Process

Toronto Film School Canada has the intake month of October. Students must apply well before the time otherwise they would be considered for the next admission cycle.

Applicationfee (non-refundable): CAD 100 for all programs, except for Film Production (CAD 500).

Basic Admission Requirements:

  • An Ontario secondary school diploma (grade 12) or any equivalent.
  • Notarized translated secondary (including any post-secondary) transcripts
  • Mature student test: for a student who is over 18 and is not enrolling directly from secondary school.
