About Veterinary Technology in St. Lawrence College

Overview

This three-year program has an excellent nationwide reputation for producing highly skilled graduates who fit easily into a biomedical research setting or a veterinary clinic setting. Our graduates leave with excellent scientific training as well as the practical laboratory and veterinary technical skills needed in today’s workplace.

This program is not open to International students.

Highlights

Graduates are eligible for registration by the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science and for membership in the Ontario Association of Veterinary Techni­cians. They are eligible to write the OAVT and CA­LAS/ACTAL provisional registry examinations in their graduating year. Our graduates often obtain the highest scores on the Veterinary Technician National Registry Exam compared to other Ontario colleges.

Career Opportunities

While most graduates find employment in veterinary hospitals and research labs; many have chosen careers in pharmaceutical and pet-food sales, animal shelters, zoos and wildlife research stations. Many have found employment in animal care services at universities across the country or work alongside some of Canada’s leading biomedical researchers. Others have found employment at veterinary colleges or have created their own businesses.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
• All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
• Minimum 65% prerequisite average for six Grade 12U or 12M level courses including Grade 12 English at the U level
• Grade 11 Math at the C, U or M level - (Grade 12 MDM4U preferred)

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS test results required with a minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each section, for entry to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each section, for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
• PTE: Pearson Test of English Language scores of 55 or higher for entrance to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 60 for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
