Associate degrees are offered at many colleges and universities throughout BC. They recognize successful completion of 60 credits of study, which is approximately 20 courses. With full-time study, you can complete an associate degree within two academic years. Part-time study options are also available.
If you want to keep your university and degree options open, an associate degree is the way to go. Universities will guarantee 60 transfer credits to holders of an associate degree, even if all the courses taken toward the degree do not transfer individually to that institution. There are specific policies at each institution. Students are advised that they must still complete all outstanding requirements of their baccalaureate degree program not already completed within the courses taken for the associate degree.
Associate degrees also offer a great deal of flexibility. You can choose your preferred courses from a specific list of eligible courses, making it possible to focus your studies in one specific area or explore a variety of subjects. Distance education options are available for some courses, allowing you to start or finish your degree wherever you are.
