What you learn in our specialized welding courses
Learning welding theory is vital, but so is the practical training needed to perform the most basic welding techniques before applying your skills in the workforce. You'll spend two semesters learning a wide range of skills that are needed in today's fast-paced workplaces, including health and safety, blueprint readings and sketching, applied math, communication, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, introduction to computers and all-position pipe welding. You'll finish with a 120-hour unpaid work placement that will help you make connections in the field and make your application stand out from the rest.
The skills and confidence you'll get from the Welding Techniques program will help you enter the workforce quickly, and you'll be qualified to work as a welder, welder fitter trainee or as an apprentice in a wide range of trades including boilermaker, construction millwright, industrial mechanic/millwright, ironworker or pipefitter.

Academic qualification equivalents
- Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
- All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
- Final minimum average of 65.0% based on the highest six Grade 12 University (U) or University/College (M) courses
English language requirements (one of the below):
IELTS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 5.5 - 7.0 with no score less than 5.0 - 6.5 in reading and listening and a score of 7.0 in writing and speaking, with test results within the last two years
Please note, some Whitireia degree level programmes require a higher level of English language competence.
