About Paramedic in Fanshawe College

No doubt, the role of a Paramedic is one of the most rewarding and challenging careers around. When lives are at stake, you're the one who takes charge. The program is specially designed to give you the best combination of an in-class and hands-on Paramedic education. Your classroom instruction will work alongside simulated training using Fanshawe's own ambulance and involvement with local emergency service providers. Plus, you'll participate in a full-time internship with a practicing Paramedic in the final semester. You'll dig deep into the study of anatomy, crisis prevention, patient care, and ambulance operations. You'll also have the opportunity to develop strategies to help promote your personal health and well-being in a career that is physically and mentally challenging.

When you graduate, you'll be eligible to write the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Advanced Emergency Medical Assistant exam, and be ready to work as a Paramedic in emergency response service, industrial first aid and medical departments.

Fanshawe's Paramedic program is also accredited by the Canadian Medical Association and is recognized as a Canadian Forces accredited program.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this program will be eligible for certification and employment as Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) at all community Paramedic Services in Ontario (provincial and base hospital certification will be required). PCP Services throughout Canada may also provide opportunity for clinical practice (province-specific licensure may be required). Other opportunities may include remote clinical practice, including national mining operations. Some medical and research clinics desire PCP graduates to join their teams. The Canadian Armed Forces recognizes graduates from this program and provides curriculum exemptions for their Medical Assistant training.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
• All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
• Final minimum average of 65.0% based on the highest six Grade 12 University (U) or University/College (M) courses

English language requirements (one of the below):

IELTS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 5.5  - 7.0 with no score less than 5.0 - 6.5 in reading and listening and a score of 7.0 in writing and speaking, with test results within the last two years
Please note, some Whitireia degree level programmes require a higher level of English language competence. 

TOEFL iBT :Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 60 - 100for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years

PTE: Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 40 - 65, with test results within the last two years
