What you will study

The program consists of four courses, one core course in pathophysiology and health assessment, which forms the basis of specialist practice. The remaining three courses give you the option of specialising in one of eight areas including:

• Acute Care (medical/surgical)

• Perinatal, Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health
• Paediatric Child Health Care

Within the program are core and advanced clinical competencies that are based on the standards of practice published by the respective colleges, e.g. College of Emergency Nursing Australia (CENA).

The University of Newcastle Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing will qualify you to work independently and collaboratively with a range of other health professionals, in a variety of clinical settings. Upon the successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, you will be qualified to work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. You will also be eligible to gain entry into a number of Master programs, including the Master of Nursing, where you can continue in your chosen speciality.
