About Fanshawe College

Fanshawe College, a public institution founded in London, Ontario in 1962, was formerly known as Ontario Vocational College (OVC). The first day of classes was September 28, 1964. In 1967, the words "fane" and "shaw" or "shawe," which both refer to buildings or temples, were combined to create the name Fanshawe. Fanshawe also translates as "temple in the woods." Fanshawe College's first president was James A. Colvin. Former Canadian Army Lieutenant General Peter Devlin was appointed president of Fanshawe College on September 3, 2013. The college's motto is "Unlocking Potential." It is one of Canada's largest colleges.

Fanshawe is located in Canada's southwest Ontario. Fanshawe College consists of four main campuses. The 100-acre London campus contains 23 structures spread over its expanse. It houses the School of Transportation Technology and Apprenticeship and the Norton Wolf School of Aviation Technology. One of the largest campuses in Ontario is located in London, which has been referred to as "a city within a city." Three buildings make up the campus in Downtown London. The campus opened its doors in 2018. It is home to the Schools of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Information Technology and Tourism, Access Studies, School of Digital and Performing Arts, and Access Studies at 431 Richmond Street and 130 Dundas Street, respectively. The newest campus of Fanshawe College is in London South. The campus provides four programmes: business management, retirement residence management, information systems architecture, and agri-business management.

Continuing education, academic upgrading, career and employment assistance, apprenticeships, and corporate training programmes are all available at the Elgin/St. Thomas Regional Campus. It also provides certificate and diploma programmes. 350 full-time students and 2,000 part-time students are housed there. The intersection of Highways 401 and 403 is where the Woodstock/Oxford Regional Campus is located. Around 2,000 part-time students and 450 full-time students attend the campus. The campus is the only place where you may enrol full-time in programmes including hairstyling, business (entrepreneurship and management), refrigeration, heating and air conditioning technician, and police foundations (accelerated). Additionally, it provides business training, continuing education, certificate programmes, and apprenticeships. North of London, in the middle Huron/Bruce region, Fanshawe College also had a campus. It has existed there because 2007. The Bruce Technology Skills and Training Centre is where the courses are taught. Fanshawe College provides 200 programmes for higher education.

Decathlete and Olympic bronze medalist Damian Warner, television sportscaster Caroline Cameron, chef Brad Long, screenwriter, producer, and director Paul Haggis, author Kelley Armstrong, politician Carol Mitchell, artist Jeff Willmore, and survival expert Les Stroud, known for Survivorman, are just a few notable alumni of Fanshawe College.

Fanshawe College Teaching Quality

In order to enhance and uphold the quality and consistency of our online and blended courses, Fanshawe College has accepted the Quality MattersTM (QM) Standards.

Fanshawe as well as post-secondary institutions in North America have adopted Quality MattersTM (QM) as an overall quality assurance methodology for e-Learning. In actuality, quality management (QM) refers to a set of quality standards for online and blended course design, a faculty-centered peer review process for online and blended courses, a tool used by instructional design staff when working with faculty, and a chance for both faculty and staff to advance their careers.

The measurement of the quality of traditional face-to-face (web-enhanced) courses can also use many of the QM framework's components. Fanshawe's set of core teaching skills, which reflect quality standards that abide by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) requirements for evaluating effective teaching, and which direct opportunities to support faculty members, are complemented by QM.
