Washington State Institution is a public research university that was founded in 1890 and is a member of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The university is reputed to be one of the oldest in Western America. It is also Washington's second-largest university. Previously, the university was known as the Washington State School of Science. The Atomic Energy Commission has provided significant money for the university's and faculties' development. The university's medical school was one of Washington's best, and one of just three medical schools. A Board of Regents oversees the university. The board now consists of ten members.
The university's campus has 620 acres of land. It is designed in a Neo-Georgian style and was planned and built by Paul Thiry, a well-known architect. The campus' infrastructure is well-maintained. All of the necessary amenities are supplied to the pupils. Thompson Hall, Steven Hall, and Bryan Hall are the three halls on campus. These are the oldest structures on campus, according to legend. The College of Arts & Sciences and the Foreign Language Department are both housed in Thompson Hall.
Steven Hall is a residence hall for female university students, while Bryan Hall is a four-sided tower that houses the university's wall clock. There are other residence halls on campus, including the Hill hall, which has four buildings, the Northside hall, which has five buildings, the Southcentral and Upper-division halls, which have six structures, and the Complex hall, which has three buildings. At the housing residences, the campus provides all required services and facilities. In fields like medicine, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine, the institution offers 78 master's degree programmes, 65 doctoral degree programmes, and three professional degree programmes.The curriculum is divided into 65 departments, which are divided into ten colleges: College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Architecture & Engineering, Carson College of Business, College of Medicine, College of Communication, College of Education, and College of Veterinary Medicine. Students are supervised by knowledgeable faculty members. The university is well-known for its calm academic atmosphere. It is the second-largest institution of higher education in Washington state, with an undergraduate enrolment of 24,470 students and a total enrollment of 29,686 students.
