The University of New Hampshire was founded in 1866 as the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts in partnership with Dartmouth College. Its original campus was in Hanover, but in 1893 it was relocated to Durham. Its name was changed in 1923 as a result of a measure signed by the state's then-governor, Fred Herbert Brown. It is now the state's largest institution and one of the world's leading research universities.
The university's three campuses are located in Durham, Concord, and Manchester, and include a total of 2600 acres of property. Many of the university's colleges are located on the main campus in Durham. The university's library system includes Dimond Library, which serves as the main library, as well as three specialist libraries for physics, chemistry, computer science, engineering, and mathematics. On-campus housing is available to students at Gables and Woodside in the form of over 25 residence halls and flats.
The university's academic organisation is made up of nine colleges and schools that provide over 200 degree programmes in a variety of fields. There are 31 sports clubs, 160 public art performances and exhibits each year, 2.8 million print and electronic resources in the library, and other student organisations.
More than 15,400 students enrolled in various programmes, including 13,000+ undergraduates and 2,400 postgraduates, make up the student population. The university's academic team includes award-winning and well-versed teachers. At the university, the student-to-faculty ratio is 18:1. The university's administration wing comprises 600 people.
