With the help of land and money donated by Augustus and Charles Storrs, the University of Connecticut (UConn) was founded in 1881 as Storrs Agricultural School. On September 28th, the school began classes with a group of 13 pupils and three faculty members. In 1893, it was renamed Storrs Agricultural College, then Connecticut Agricultural College, then Connecticut State College, and finally Connecticut State College in 1933. In 1939, it was renamed the University of Connecticut. There are 14 schools and colleges at the institution now. The Association of American Universities has also granted it accreditation.

The university's main campus, which is located in Storrs, houses a variety of academic and recreational facilities. In Connecticut, the institution operates four regional campuses. Its Avery Point location teaches maritime and marine studies, while its Stamford campus is in New York City and is known for business degrees, and its Hartford campus is in downtown Hartford and is known for humanities degrees.
