Northeastern University is a private university founded in 1898. The academic staff numbered 1,830 till the fall of 2018. By the fall of 2019, there had been 27,391 pupils admitted. By the fall of 2019, there were 18,359 undergraduates and 9,032 postgraduates enrolled. It also boasts 34% international students from 144 different countries. They are based in Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America. It's a private research university. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education has classified this as an R1 institute.

Aside from the main campus in Boston, the university maintains a number of other locations. Burlington, Charlotte, London (UK), Nahant, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Toronto, and Vancouver are among the satellite campuses. Both graduate and undergraduate programmes are available on the Boston campus. They just purchased London's New College of Humanities and hope to construct a second campus in Vancouver, Canada. There are various professional programmes available depending on your area of interest, such as 7 programmes in analytics, 21 programmes in business, 16 programmes in communications and digital media, and 15 programmes in education and learning. At the undergraduate and graduate levels, it offers 229 subjects of study.

The university's sports team, the Northeastern Huskies, participated in 18 varsity sports in NCAA Division I against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) members. The NEU men's hockey team won the Beanpot in 2018 and 2019, defeating Boston University, Harvard, and Boston College. There are also 485 campus organisations with 18,900 student members. 2018–2019

In 1935, the College of Liberal Arts was established. Women were not admitted to the college until after World War II. The college has a number of affiliations with other colleges, including Tufts University, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Hebrew College. Among the research institutes are the Advanced Scientific Computation Center (ASCC) and the Affective Science Institute (ASI). Between 2006 and 2019, 308 patents were awarded to staff and students.
