Iowa State University is a public land and space grant institution. The university focuses primarily on Science and Technology. The Iowa State University is in Ames, Iowa. The university was established in 1858 after the General Assembly passed the Iowa Agriculture and College and Model Farm Act.
Iowa State has been a coeducational institution since its inception, and it was the state's first elected land grant institution after the university accepted the 1862 Morrill Act's regulations. Iowa State is the largest university in the state of Iowa, and it features a Home Economics and Agriculture Experiment Station.
Iowa State's expansive campus includes 160 buildings. The central portion of the campus is approximately 490 acres in size and is covered with lush green trees and plants. The Marston Water Tower, Campanile, and University Museum are among the campus's most prominent structures.
The university admits approximately 33,000 students per year. The university offers approximately 100 bachelor's level courses, 112 master's level courses, and 83 doctoral level courses. In addition, the University offers a professional programme in Veterinary Medicine. The university houses the Ames Laboratory, which is also a US Department of Energy research facility.
Graduates and postgraduates of Iowa State University include some well-known individuals. As the university has been in existence since the 1800s, Iowa State has a long list of Iowa State alumni. Lee Teng Hui, the former president of Taiwan, and Clayton Anderson, a key member of the International Space Station (ISS) Expedition, are two notable Iowa State alumni. Tom Harkin and Joni Ernst are among the well-known United States senators who are affiliated with the university. Clarence Chamberlain, the pilot of the first transatlantic passenger flight, attended the university. Other well-known individuals, such as Bruce Roth, the creator of the drug Lipitor, and Carrie Chapman, the co-founder of the League of Women Voters, were also Iowa State students.
