In the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon Institution is a private, global research university. In 1900, Andrew Carnegie started the institution as Carnegie Technical Schools, and in 1912, it became Carnegie Institute of Technology, which offered four-year degrees. It was merged with the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research to form Carnegie Mellon University in 1967. It has since evolved into an international institution with campuses in Silicon Valley, Africa, and Australia, as well as overseas campuses in Qatar, Africa, and Australia.
The College of Engineering, Dietrich College of Social Science and Humanities, Mellon College of Science, College of Fine Arts, School of Computer Science, H. John Heinz III College of Information Systems and Public Policy, and Tepper School of Business are all independent schools and colleges that offer interdisciplinary programmes. The Hunt Library, Qatar Library, Mellon Institute Library, Roger Sorrells Science & Engineering Library, and the Posner Center are among Carnegie Mellon University's five libraries.

A comprehensive undergraduate module in business administration, computer science, information systems, biology, and computational biology is available at the Qatar campus.
