St. Stephen's College, one of the three founding institutions of the University of Delhi, is regarded as one of the oldest colleges in Delhi. The institution was established on February 1st, 1881, by Rev. Samuel Scott Allnut in a modest Chandni Chowk home near Kinari Bazar with just three teachers and five students. In 1941, St. Stephen's College relocated to its current location in the University Enclave's North Campus neighbourhood. The college's striking red-brick structure was created by famous architect Walter Sykes George. The college initially joined forces with Calcutta University, then Punjab University, before joining forces with the University of Delhi in 1992, the year it was founded.
St. Stephen's College, which boasts a long list of famous graduates from a variety of industries, has been accredited by the UGC and given a "A" grade with a 3.21 CGPA by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college is also placed second in the college category of the 2018 NIRF All India Ranking. Since it first started providing education, the college has produced several well-known leaders in a variety of professions, including Barkha Dutt, Rajiv Sethi, Rahul Gandhi, and Raam Reddy.
St Stephen's College has members from across all denominations and regions of India, as well as students and staff from all communities and regions of the country. Additionally, it provides certificates in 8 different foreign languages.
The college promotes students' extracurricular involvement in addition to their academic pursuits since it values their complete growth. Student organisations, whether they are academic or cultural, are essential to St. Stephen's College life. The most intriguing aspect of this college is that it has societies for each subject that plan and finance extracurricular activities for the students in an effort to pique their interest in the field.
The college gives out more than a hundred prizes and scholarships to eligible students each year, which encourages them to take part in more activities.
